VRChat 2025.4.2p1

December 10 - Build 1769 - Live

Hey! There's a change log below. But before we get to that, I wanted to share another update!

As part of the December Shop update, we introduced a new Item called the Portable Winterizer. This Item was a little different compared to past Items in that it was consumable — meaning that you could only use it a limited number of times before it would disappear from your inventory.

After releasing it, we heard a lot of feedback from the community. Clearly, this wasn't something you wanted in the Shop!

So, two things:

First, we're going to be changing the Portable Winterizer. Soon, it will behave like any other Item — that means it will no longer be a consumable. Once you buy it, you'll be able to put it down as many times as you'd like. As a note, if you've already bought (or were gifted) the Portable Winterizer, you'll be getting this new, unlimited version. If you bought two (or more) of them, we'll be refunding your credits. If you don't receive those by the end of the week, please reach out to our support team!

This change will be going live soon — it could be today, it could be tomorrow. Keep an eye out!

Second, we want to thank the community for being vocal about this. The Shop gives us the ability to try different things and see what works and what doesn't. Sometimes, when we try something new, it won't work out. That's okay, and we're more than willing to be wrong if it means we can learn from it.

Ultimately, the thing we are most interested in is building things that people want to buy. After all, we need to make money, and to do that, we need to make stuff that you're excited about.

Anyway -- to the patch! It's 2025.4.2p1 build 1769!

Changes & Fixes

  • Steam Audio related:
    • Fixed spatialized audio (including voices) not working on some rare Mono speaker setups.
      • Thanks to everyone who helped test on the a-test special branch! You can now switch back to live.
    • Fixed Doppler effect being incorrectly enabled on AudioSources without the appropriate VRC component.
    • Fixed spatialization in "Audio from Camera" mode. This affected Stream mode and Drone FPV flying.
    • Perspective Correction is now enabled when in "Audio from Camera" mode, even in VR, and will adapt correctly to the size of the camera output instead of your viewport.
      • This should mean that people will sound less "in one ear only" for viewers when streaming VRChat with "Audio from Camera".
    • Fixed chatbox notification volume.
    • Applied more tuning to voice audio falloff and compression.
    • Improved "ILD Nudging," or in other words, the stereo separation when audio sources or voices get really close to your ear. This should mean:
      • Someone whispering in your ear, or implements in ASMR worlds, will now sound more properly "in your ear."
      • People standing close, but not super close, will sound less like they are panned to just one ear.
      • Reduced excess gain when very close.
    • Improved near-field scaling based on avatar eye height.
    • Additionally, we have added a system that allows us to tweak some parts of the audio experience server-side, without needing a new update. You may hear things subtly change over the coming days as we fine-tune the system based on your feedback!
  • Portal skin previews are now scaled properly and face the camera in the menu.
  • Clicking a "Hidden Mutual", i.e the placeholder for when someone has opted out of mutuals, will no longer try to bring you to their (lack of a) page.
  • Fixed the "View Friends" leaderboard button in the holiday campaign so it actually does what it says.
  • Fixed an error that would occur if you tried to gift a permanent world listing to someone not in the current instance.

Side note: Steam Audio changed the range of the "Voice" audio slider. It was reset to keep your current volume level in the last update, but we have heard some feedback that people set it right back to 100% - this will now be very loud! For comparison, 100% on the old audio system is now approximately 65%. Try dialing in the Voice slider in a real instance if you think voices are too loud or quiet no
