August 18 - Build 1896 - Open Beta

Changes & Fixes

  • With Accessories, you can now enter the editor and try out every customization option before purchasing.
    • Additionally, if you purchase an Accessory after doing this, it will be automatically added to a Look for you.
  • Improvements to Accessory Bundles.
    • The Main Menu Avatars tab will now show a "new" banner when you have received or purchased new Accessories.
    • The Accessories sidebar will now show you how many new Accessories you have.
    • Individually owned Accessories will now show a "new" icon.
    • The "Bundles & Packs" inventory menu sidebar tab will now show how many new bundles are available to claim.
    • When claiming a bundle that contains avatar accessories, you will now have the option to go directly to your accessories collection.
  • Listings in the Accessories store containing more than one product will now show a product count above the "Purchase" button.
  • Accessories can now be scaled even smaller.
  • Closing the menu while using the Look Editor now remembers your session. When returning to the Avatar page, you will be prompted with a prompt to resume or discard those changes.
  • Fixed a case where copying an Accessory in a Look wouldn't apply changes made to that Accessory when creating a new copy.
  • Accessory Bone Improvements
    • The looks editor now contains a dropdown for selecting bones, in addition to selecting bones in the scene.
    • The visibility filters are now "Human," "Rig," and "Extra." Human are all standard human bones. Rig contains any non-humanoid bones that descend from the human rig. Extra are any bones outside of humanoid rig entirely.
  • Throw your Camera to close it.
    • No, seriously.
      • We've added the ability to throw your Camera viewfinder to put it away.
      • You can turn this off via the "Behavior" tab. If you're not a fan of fun.

    • We have the technology.

    • The buttons under the "Tools" section now have long-press actions indicated by a tooltip.

    • Removed “Manage” submenu for emoji, and replaced it with “Open Inventory”, since it only contained that one option.
    • Moved “Face Mirror” to the top Options menu instead of as a sub-menu of the “Personal Mirror” tab.
    • Reorganized “Personal Mirror” sub-menu slightly.
    • Both mirror menus now have all options available even if their respective mirror is not open.
    • Removed “Calibration Mirror” setting from the Action Menu. (It still exists in the Main Menu's Settings).
      • Changed it to enabled it by default as well.
      • Fun fact: 42.1% of all FBT users have it on already, which is incredibly high for a setting that defaults off.
    • The Action Menu page now only resets on avatar switch if you're actually inside the "Expressions" submenu.
    • The “Personal Mirror” section in the Action Menu now has preset support.
      • Long-press on a slot to save all current personal mirror options such as Transparency, Masking, Movement Mode, etc.

  • Made VRChat Credit pack text more legible.
  • Made Do Not Disturb status description clearer on the Status page.

  • Sometimes saving an accessory look may not work.

Item compatibility

Items spawned on this build will not be usable for people on live, and vice versa. This is a known issue that will resolve itself once 2026.3.2 reaches live.

Fixes & Changes

  • Fixed an issue that could cause your user icon to reset to your avatar image after some time had passed.
    • This was fixed server-side, so will affect live too. We're just mentioning it for completeness sake.
  • Long-press actions in the Action Menu now work with flick select.
  • Fixed an issue on Desktop where clicking on the Quick Menu or Main Menu could activate the "use" action on an object that was being held at the same time.
  • Fixed an issue where keyboard inputs (from your real, physical keyboard) were ignored for users playing in VR mode.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause VRChat to hang when launching multiple copies of it at once, such as when testing a world from the SDK.
  • Fixed an issue where the avatar pedestal in menus could become invisible after purchasing an accessory or aborting edits to a look.
  • Fixed various issues with profile effect previews in the shop.
  • Updated text references in menus from "User Icon" to "Profile Icon".
  • The following SteamVR tracker names are now automatically ignored for FBT calibration: HANDL, HANDR, VRLINKQ_Hand_Left, VRLINKQ_Hand_Right.
    • This should prevent commonly used hand-tracking software from interfering with full-body calibration.
    • If this causes any issues for you, please let us know!
  • Fixed a softlock when Connecting to an instance fails.
  • Safety & Security fixes.

August 25, Build 1898

Fixes & Changes

  • The "Reset Avatar" button now requires a long-press, i.e. you need to hold it down.
    • This was suggested on Canny as a solution to avoid accidental resets.
    • We agree with the premise! That said, do let us know if you like this change or not.
  • The "back" button in the Action Menu can now be long-pressed to go all the way back to the root if you are more than one sub-menu in.
  • Long-pressing the "Camera" tool to open Stream Mode no longer incorrectly works on Quest.
  • Fixed PhysBones not working on Items.
    • As a reminder, Items are not compatible between beta branches and live!
  • "Steady Cam" mode now re-engages automatically if it was disabled by taking out your Stream Camera.
  • Fixed a bug that caused chatbox typing indicators to show when they should not.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the author cell to appear empty when viewing the details of a local test avatar.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the author or avatar name in the profile's avatar panel to be incorrectly truncated when certain characters were used.
  • Fixed your avatar not always reloading to show changes to worn accessories when creating and applying a new look via the Accessories tab in the main menu.
  • Fixed an issue where the content cache would sometimes not be cleared after pressing Clear Content Cache and then restarting VRChat.
  • Fixed issue where recent transactions in the Wallet menu were not shown until changing the "date range" filter.
  • Safety and security improvements.

Unity 6

  • Minor network optimizations for Items.
  • PhysBones now reset animator parameters and Udon state when becoming disabled if "Reset When Disabled" is set.

||These 2 changes are not Unity-engine specific and will make their way to the regular beta branch in the next update too. They are only on the unity-6 branch for internal reasons currently.||

Known Issue

  • Items are not compatible between Beta and Live.
  • World-placeable Items might fail to spawn.
